Analyze Your Options

If you’ve decided to avail Individual health insurance then be informed that they come in different shapes and sizes for different needs. Before you actually determine which policy you will purchase you will be going through the options that you have available to you. After careful consideration of these options you will be in a much better position to judge what suites you best.

The old school insurance known as a Fee-For-Service policy is one where the insurance company pays part of each medical service and you pay the remaining amount. Although one is free to go to a doctor of choice this type of individual health insurance is fast loosing popularity due to the high monthly costs when compared with Managed care plans. Managed care plans such as HMO’s and PPO’s have a network of doctors that are prepaid members of the plan. If you consult the doctors within the plan then all you have to pay is a small co-payment but if you opt to go outside the network then you will end up paying higher rates. In some regions managed care plans are liable to offer a one month Open Enrollment period. During this period people with ongoing health problems can sign in and avail individual health insurance without having to go through a medical exam.

If you are associated with any professional organization then you might be able to avail individual health insurance through it at group rates. Association-Based health insurance is offered by many organizations at different levels from professional to religious and social. If all these means have failed you till now then as a last resort you can try and find out what your chances are of availing insurance through High-risk pools. This is a suitable option only for those who have been unable to secure health insurance due to a severe medical condition.
